Who is Rachel Grose (formerly Rachel Fisher)? She's this crazy blonde chick from Ohio, living now in West Virginia. She does all sorts of music and plans to become a high school English teacher someday in West Virginia. She was born in 1976. She likes to read, do creative writing, dance, sing, sew, decorate, hike, and swim, as well as spend quality time with her friends and family.
What kind of music does she do? All kinds. She goes through phases. Right now, she's into country music. What does Rachel do with her music? She sings, writes, and arranges music, writes lyrics, plays random instruments like the keyboard, baritone uke (not to be confused with the tiny sopranno ukulele), flute, guitar, and electric guitar.
Who helps her/backs her up? No one right now. She's currently solo but would like to have a backup band someday, mostly with a pop rock sound.
Is she going to play anywhere live? On July 9, 2004, if she can make it, she might be competing in the Colgate Country Showdown! She will be playing her baritone uke and singing, possibly a new song she wrote called "Country Girl."
Can I listen to her music on the net? Sure! Just go to iuma.com and type in "rachel girl" in the artist box. Or, you can and click on the link of the main page of this site.
Where can I get a copy of her music? Why, you can email Rachel at groovy_hipster@hotmail.com, and request a TAPE. She will take donations for her music, and asks you send at least $5.00 for the cost of the tape and shipping and handling.
When is her first professional-sounding album coming out? She doesn't know! For now it's just random stuff on tape.
Do you still like the B-52's? I love their music and artistry. I don't like their politics.
What kind of music does Rachel like to listen to? All kinds. If you name one type of music, she probably listens to or likes at least one song from that genre. However, she hates any music that is sexually, racially, etc. offensive and/or uses a lot of words that promote what she is against--violence, hatred, sexism.
Her favorite bands are They Might Be Giants, Devo, The Talking Heads, and The Cars. Genres she especially enjoys listening to include (but are not limited to) swing, blues, jazz, funk, ska, reggae, hip hop, new wave, techno, punk, 80's pop, 90's alternative, country (Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Martina McBride), "angry" music (he-he), experimental, spoken word, world music, and basically weird stuff that makes you think about life in a new light and promotes happiness and freedom of expression.
What really irritates me is that country music and rap today have turned so sexually degrading, it makes me sick to my stomach. Rap is the worst, glorifying prostitution, drug use, crime, and using women. But both are bad in that for their videos, the camera is zoomed right in on women's breasts or butt the majority of the time. That just doesn't entertain me. I end up turning the channel.
Who are Rachel's musical inspirations? Some of her influences include The B-52's, They Might Be Giants, Talking Heads, Liz Phair, Suzanne Vega, The Sundays, those neato African women who do crazy-sounding "world music" vocals, Devo, Bjork, Dolly Parton, Reba, and Blondie. I'm mostly an 80's child!
What/who gives Rachel ideas to write songs? Disappointments in life, and things she finds funny, mostly. Also, the usual personal relationships with male counterparts, family, and friends.
Have questions you'd like to ask Rachel? Email them to her at the address above!
